NORTH COUNTY CANINE TRAINING
We offer certified professional dog trainers in San Diego County, specializing in basic and advanced obedience, leash re-activity, personal protection, home protection, tracking/trailing, scent detection, house breaking, aggression, manners, barking, chewing, digging, or any other behavioral issues that may develop. We believe in building a solid bond between you and your pet through clear communication and consistent training. Let us take the stress out of being a dog owner and assist you in developing memories with your pet that will last a lifetime.
TRAINING THEORY
The training techniques and education we provide are based on animal learning theory and the study of canine behavior. The theory is simple: Behaviors that are reinforced will continue. Behaviors that are not reinforced through the withholding of a reward or a physical correction will eventually be abandoned. The first step is finding what type of "reward" (treats/food, toys, or verbal/physical praise) motivates your dog. These rewards will be prioritized based on the genetic drives of the dog. With this being said, most dogs perform very well with some type of treat of food reward as positive behavior reinforcement. Next we carefully select training program based on the "four quadrants" that best fit the dog and the training end goal.

              FOUR QUADRANTS

  • Positive punishment – adding something averse to a situation to reduce unwanted behavior (i.e., correction collar)
  • Negative punishment – removing something desirable to reduce unwanted behavior (i.e., taking food or a favorite toy away from a dog)
  • Positive reinforcement – adding something desirable to increase the likelihood of wanted behavior reoccurring (i.e., giving a dog a food reward for responding to your cue, such as when you ask a dog to sit)
  • Negative reinforcement – removing something averse to increase the frequency of a wanted behavior (i.e., turning off the e-collar once a dog completes the desired task)
